POLICY:
It is the Policy W. L. Bonner College (WLBC) to allow its students a means to appeal certain academic statuses by petitioning to the Academic Review Board (ARB). Additionally, the ARB has the authority to review other academic related appeals.
The Academic Review Board (ARB) shall be comprised of three faculty members of the Division of Academic Affairs, the Director of Student Enrollment Management /Registrar, and the Director of Financial Aid Services/Student Life. The ARB shall have jurisdiction to (a) consider appeals by students who have been academically dismissed, and (b) accept applications for readmission following academic dismissal. The Chair of the Committee shall be chosen from the Division of Academic Affairs. The Director of Enrollment Management and Director of Financial Aid Services/Student Life shall serve as Ex-officio members of the Board.
The ARB’s decision must be unbiased, and scoring must be done independently based on the student’s academic history and current standing. Additionally, the ARB must consider all supporting documents presented with the petition before making decisions on students’ petitions, collectively.
ADMINISTRATION:
The College Dean/CEO delegates to the Director of Enrollment Management/Registrar the responsibility for compliance with policies relating to Academic Review Board regulations and appeal processes.
IMPLEMENTATION:
Students seeking to appeal academic dismissal (or other related academic appeals) must submit, within a limited time period, a letter of appeal to the Academic Review Committee c/o the Director of Enrollment Management/Registrar. Included with this letter should be supporting documentation that offers extenuating circumstances for the student’s past academic performance.
The ARB will review this letter and, at its discretion, interview the student before making a decision. The ARB shall make a determination regarding the appeal and notify the student in writing of its decision prior to the first day of classes of the
